Thamy Fernanda de Souza, 28, the new Carnaval Queen of Porto Alegre

Thamy Fernanda de Souza, 28, of the Os Filhos da Candinha Samba school is the new Queen of Carnival for 2013. Pabline Correa, 23, of Tribo Os Comanches, 28, and Fernanda Aguilhera of Imperadores do Samba were chosen 1st and 2nd princesses, respectively.

The trio of beauties accompanied Fábio Verçosa who was chosen Rei Momo (King Momo) in the Carnival activities.

Twenty-two candidates competed in the event which had the theme “Chinese Dragon celebrates Carnival.” (See individual photos of 20 of the candidates here).

 
 

The girls paraded in evening gowns, swimsuit and costumes. The competition was held in the Ginásio Tesourinha, the new court of Carnaval in Porto Alegre, the capital city of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil.

Thamy Fernanda de Souza has a degree in Physical Education and is a primary school teacher. Representative of the Os Filhos da Candinha Samba school of Grupo de Acesso do Carnaval de Porto Alegre, she lives in the Bairro Jardim Vila Nova area. She had previously participated in the Miss Beleza Negra (Miss Black Beauty) competition, stands 5’9” tall, weighs 132 lbs and cheers for Porto Alegre’s Grêmio soccer team.
