Note from BW of Brazil: Headline making news coming out of Brazil never ceases. This is true of general news and news from the racial perspective as is of this blog. Sometimes these headlines are so important that it takes more than one post to adequately show how important the newsworthy piece really is. For example, within the past few months, we covered the murder of a dancer on a popular televised variety show and soon after followed the development of a popular hashtag and would be campaign slogan against racism. Today’s post is a throw back to another headline making topic that we devoted several articles to a few months back: the so-called “rolezinhos” and racial discrimination against black youth in Brazilian shopping malls. As the videos and report below will show, while the issue isn’t hot in the media anymore, assaults on black teens in the malls continue to be a problem. So nice to know that in Brazil, “we are all equal”…

The episode below, recorded by cell phone by witnesses, took place on May 31 in a mall in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. As can be seen (and is narrated below the video, by the father of one of the teens), they were just sitting there, waiting for a friend who had gone to buy a snack and then returned. From there, the video does not need comments. And the outrage is of ours.

I hope that effectively Marcos Paulo refers this matter to court and takes it to the full extent. Not only for his son and his companions, but to also help wake up this sick society!
Marcos Paulo, via Mirt’s Sants:

“Yesterday my son, nephew and two more friends were physically and morally attacked by people who say they were security guards at Shopping Center and Rodoban (security agrency).
“Look at these videos as they attacked black youths, claiming that they were not making purchases. They said the table was private, and they could not stay there. Notice that their friend had just arrived with a snack, and my son had just bought a gift for his girlfriend…
“I never imagined this would happen to my son. It can also happen with your, or with you! I will initiate a criminal prosecution. I will not let it go unchallenged. I will go until the END!”
