Quésia Luz is a contestant on the Globo Network’s new talent reality show, The Voice Brazil. 22 years old and from Salvador, Bahia (“Black Rome”) in Brazil’s northeast, Quésia had already won one televised talent competition in June of 2010 when she won the Desafio da Música Gospel (The Gospel Music Challenge) on the Rede TV network and the opportunity to record a CD on the Sony Music label.
For The Voice Brazil, contestants sing in hopes of being selected to be on one of the teams of the judges, who are also coaches. After the selection rounds, the contestants who have been chosen by a coach will compete on that team against the teams in a “sing off” round. All four of the judges/coaches are well-known Brazilian singers in their own right.
For her performance, Quésia sang her rendition of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You”. In this competition she was chosen to be on the team of the judge/coach Carlinhos Brown, one of Brazil’s biggest hit-makers. Impressed with her vocals, Brown said, “I like your voice more than Alicia’s voice. What we are looking for are incredible voices. We all want to say: Welcome!”
Having also been chosen to be on the team of judge/coach Claudia Leitte, Quésia then chose to be on Brown’s team. Brown would then meet her onstage with a hug.
