Note from BW of Brazil: Not much to really say here because the headline and story we speak for themselves. But just a reminder to always remember: “Brazilians aren’t racists!!” They just happen to like calling persons of African descent monkeys!

The 21st precinct is investigating the case
The Civil Police of the Federal District (DF) fined a professor of IFB (Federal Institute of Brasilia), located in the Campus de Samambaia on the night of Sunday (30), for injúria racial (racial slur). The professor Rones Borges called a woman macaca (monkey) in a bar in Águas Claras (DF).
The confusion began at 11.30pm, when the woman was talking to friends on the property. The professor approached the group and started talking to one of the girls. Annoyed with the flirting, the woman called the man’s attention. To fight back, he said that she should not be there.
“He approached me and asked if I had looked at myself in the mirror. I ignored him and he asked again. Then he said ‘you’re ugly, you’re a monkey, you shouldn’t be in this place,” said Claudenice Chagas.
Other customers called the police at the 21th Precinct, the man was apprehended in the act, paid bail of R$1,000 (US$390) and was released.

In a statement, the rectory of the IFB said that no case of racism happened in the dependence of the Institute or was committed by the server or in the exercise on employment and the appropriate responses should be obtained from the professor’s lawyer.
The director of Campus de Samambaia, Luis Diogo, told R7 (news) to consult the Federal Prosecutor to see if the man could respond to an internal administrative process. As it occurred outside of the environment and working hours, it may be that the occurrence is investigated only in court.

It is important that people are held accountable for their actions. Unfortunately, Brazil legal system lacks the teeth. Nothing will come of this.
“As it occurred outside of the environment and working hours, it may be that the occurrence is investigated only in court.”
That’s bullshit. There is already “jurisprudencia” from formers cases that I know of where people were punished by violations committed outside Academia that reflected inside. What I don’t know of is this happening applied to racism but that’s the whole problem. The guy should be expelled if the allegations were proven truthful. But I agree, unfortunately, nothing will come out of this.
