Note from BW of Brazil: As we have seen in a number previous posts, fashion design is another realm in which Afro-Brazilians are combining their flair and getting involved in the area of Afro-Entrepreneurialism. The story below highlights the work of a talented designer in the heavily Afro-Brazilian city of Salvador, Bahia.
Fashion with identity of Mônica Anjos
by Claudia Alexander

It is in a sophisticated space in the neighborhood of Rio Vermelho, in Salvador, Bahia that designer Mônica Anjos creates collections that have pleased women that, according to her, seek own identity, independent of the trends imposed by the market. Large, fluttering, colorful, flowery models from classic to casual. The clothes made by the designer and her team appreciate all shapes.
“I make fashion for all women, those who seek their identity, whether they are black or not,” said Anjos, that today is worn by famous people such as Luana Piovani, Fabiana Cozza and Carla Vizzi, among others.
Moreover, the workshop environment tastefully unites fashion, art and culture, where you can always find artists, formers of opinion and influential people, who are also attracted to programs that unite music, aesthetics, fashion and gastronomy.
The brand has a proposal that’s full of creativity that bets on a line bringing unusual design, with lightness and proximity. In addition to prints, Monica uses fabrics that “caress the skin”, which have been carefully tested and researched by the designer.
To compose the autumn-winter collection partnerships were formed with accessories and jewelry designers, Macedo Dolores/Lolita and Janaina Rodrigues, who bring options and combinations for those who want to compose a visual with identity. In the campaign the clothes are presented by model Aline Andrade and production by Tati Amorim. Support by Conça with the photos of Ronaldo Partha Silva, in the studio of Bruno Ribeiro.
