The center Fabiana, captain of the Brazilian national volleyball team that took home the gold in the 2012 London Olympics, is being evaluated by Ford Models modeling agency to strut the catwalk. On the night of Thursday, the player met with a director of the agency at a restaurant to discuss the invitation.

“I really liked the invitation of Ford Models, because it’s an old dream of mine. But it’s something that I will think about calmly because I’m focused on my team and volleyball, which will have a very hard Superliga (Brazilian volleyball league) (season) ahead. I’m really flattered by the interest, but I won’t decide anything now,” reported Fabiana, who is taking courses in fashion.

Strutting the catwalk is an old dream of 27-year old center who currently plays for the Sesi /SP team. She has dedicated herself to studying runway routines to be prepared if, in fact, she closes a deal with the agency to participate in events.

“I’m learning about fashion shows and catwalks too because everything I do I have to be very well prepared. And I’ll only do this if I really feel I’m ready, because I like things to be well done. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to walk the runways with the same excellence that I play volleyball?” said the player.

Cassius Pereira, director of Ford Models, complimented the center primarily on her physique, which he says, are very close to that of a model. Therefore, Pereira believes in the success of any athlete in a new career on the catwalks.

“Besides Fabi being one of Brazil’s best players, she is a person who has the differentiated features and size of a model. I believe she will be a success on the catwalks. I hope that Ford Models can bring her in next year, but we know her focus and will wait for her response,” said Cassius.

We wish Fabiana success in any of her future endeavors, particularly if she chooses to get into modeling as Afro-Brazilians are consistently left out of Brazil’s top fashion shows as we have reported here time and time again, including at the recent Fashion Rio event. Fabiana was a winner at the recent 2012 Troféu Raça Negra awards, Brazil’s Essence Awards-like show honoring achievements of Afro-Brazilians. If you aren’t familiar with her, BW of Brazil has featured Fabiana a few times on the blog. See a few photos of her here and with the gold-medal winning Brazilian volleyball team here.
