Note from BW of Brazil: Hard to believe, but it’s July 25th once again, and as always, we commemorate the International Day of Latin American and Caribbean Black Women. Some may ask why it is necessary that we celebrate such a day rather than a day for ALL women. Well, in fact, we DO celebrate a day for all women and that day falls on March 8th every year. But the experience of being BLACK and a woman in a world dominated by Western values and white supremacy is quite different from being a white woman. Need proof of this? Well, there are more than five years of material on this blog that will provide all of the evidence you will need! No need to even debate the issue. Let us all just celebrate the Day of Black Women in Latin America and the Caribbean! Congratulations to ALL sisters in the region! Below, is how the date is being celebrated in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and a few videos showing what the celebrations looked like in 2015 and 2016.
